SPEP: Standardized Program Evaluation Protocol
SPEP is a process and collaboration to promote program improvement and reduce youth recidivism in the juvenile justice system.
A.R.C. was the FIRST residential program in Pennsylvania to complete the SPEP process. Three residential programs (Chambersburg, Woodlawn and Susquehanna Trail) took part in the SPEP process in 2014 and partnered with Dauphin County Probation Services and the EPIS Center.
A.R.C. has begun the SPEP process again at the Susquehanna Trail Program and has partnered with York County Probation Services and the EPIS Center.
is considered a major subject at all A.R.C locations and is delivered in five, 40 minute periods per week. Instruction is delivered by teachers, and on-line instruction via the Smart Futures program that includes Keys2Work. The PACTT Employability/Soft Skills checklist is also completed on all students committed to the program 90 days or longer and by youth 14 and older. Students are able to become certified in First Aid/CPR/AED. A.R.C offers students career technical courses in coordination with the Dauphin County Technical School.
The purpose of this initiative is to help students develop job skills they need when they return to their communities. Career readiness is very important for our students and is provided in addition to the career education program provided during the school day. During the school year, students have the opportunity to participate in courses such as: Small Engine Repair, Auto Body, Carpentry, Masonry, and Electrical Construction. The courses are generally offered two times per year and last approximately thirteen weeks.
A+ Learning Credit Recovery Courses and Electives
A+ online curriculum is a program that allows students a second chance to graduate on schedule. The program is flexible by allowing students to work at their own pace on a computer. Students with various learning styles can be successful when given the appropriate tools to succeed. This initiative enables A.R.C. to offer courses that might not otherwise be available.
GED Prep and On-Site Testing
Students have the opportunity to work towards achieving their GED while at A.R.C. Students are able to study for the test using online study aids and practice tests. These students will also work on GED prep with one of the academic coaches in the areas of Mathematics, Science, and English. A.R.C is an Official Corrections Site for GED testing. This allows students to take the GED test on-site.
If the outcome of our behaviors, actions, and attitude is good for the students, then it is worth doing. If the outcome of our behaviors, actions, and attitude is not good for our students then it is not worth doing. We are the role models for our students. Therefore our behavior, actions, and attitude must always be presented in a positive way.
